Hooks and Other Info

  • Quenepa is a fighter at heart and definitely looks the part. Covered in scrapes and dirty clothes on a normal day, she even wears hand-wraps when in casual clothes to cover the callouses formed from gripping her axe.

  • Despite this, she adores dressing up in pretty clothes and makeup. If she's ever in one of the major cities, she's likely hunting for a cute sundress or shawl after a long day's work.

  • While she wasn't legendary, she certainly made an impression during her time in the Marauder's guild. If you mention her to anyone who was around when she was, you're bound to hear a story or two about her work during and after the Calamity.

  • She will happily accept any kind of dangerous job. Her confidence is almost as strong as the armor she wears and she's ready and willing to show off her abilities. Knowing that most folks will underestimate her due to her size only makes her more eager to prove her mettle.

  • As a traveling mercenary, she's been all around the three major city-states and knows their areas well. Now that the revolution in Ala Mhigo has ended, she has also begun to make forays back to her home region to provide assistance to the reconstruction effort when she can. She most often spends time in the outer settlements, always happy to lend a helping hand to those who need it.

  • She's very headstrong and stubborn, definitely to a fault. More than that, she's a people pleaser and will go to great lengths for others even if to her detriment.

  • She is currently searching for any information in the Warrior arts. While she has found scraps here and there and practiced the techniques she knows of, it's clear that a teacher (and a soul crystal) would be to her benefit.

  • Her current permanent residence is in the River's Bend inn in Gridania. She's desperate to repay the innkeep, Uteki Eijin, for allowing her a room in any way she can.

Background

Quenepa Nepa, born Nenepa Nepa, grew up in a quiet village in the outskirts of Ala Mhigo with her Plainsfolk mother, Pinana Pina, and Dunesfolk father, Momofo Gogofo. Quenepa's parents, seeking respite from the hustle and bustle of Ul'dah's city life, had moved to Gyr Abania shortly after her birth in the hopes that a peaceful, simple life would be to her benefit. And indeed, life in the village was peaceful, if monotonous and unexciting. However, it planted a fervent desire to travel and explore new places in her from early childhood, much to her parent's chagrin. Her headstrong attitude, coupled with the brashness of youth, put her in many a dangerous situation in the wilds of the Lochs and no amount of scolding or arguing could keep her from being knee-deep in trouble the very next day. Still, none could deny she was adept at getting out of a sticky situation. Her hobby necessitated she learn to defend herself; by her eigth nameday she had grown used to the weight of a small axe in her hands. What little she concretely remembers of these days, however, is marred by the memories of her experiences during and after the civil war of Ala Mhigo and the subsequent invasion and occupation by Garlemald forces.

Being only nine years old at the time of the civil war, Quenepa did not think much of the situation, as it largely seemed to leave her community unaffected. The fight never came to her village, but she heard the villagers speak high praises of the revolutionaries who sought liberation from Theodoric's tyranny, and none was more outspoken than Momofo. Many times she returned from a day out by the Lochs to her parents arguing; Pinana pleading for him to stay home and live a peaceful life with them, Momofo asking how he could be in peace knowing he wasn't fighting for a better future for them.

As the days, weeks, and months went by, she began to notice the shrinking number of men in the village, the disquiet in the eyes of their mothers and wives. Still, to her the days seemed as boring as any of the rest and she couldn't quite understand why they all seemed so concerned with what was happening in a city that, from her perspective, was so far away from them. It wasn't until Momofo walked into her room one night that she began to understand the reality of what was happening. With gentleness she hadn't heard since she'd learned to run, he asked her to be there for her mother and reminded her that he loved her very much. Those words were the last she heard from him, for he would never return to the village. News of the death of King Theodoric reached the community just a few days later, along with those of the men who had died in the fight, her father among them.

The strained relationship Quenepa and Pinana shared grew only more tattered in the subsequent weeks. To cope, Quenepa spent even more time away from the village, training around the Lochs and letting her anger and grief out on any creature careless enough to consider her easy prey. Every evening in her household was a screaming match between the two Lalafell, both unable, or unwilling, to give an inch for the other. Perhaps, with time, they would have grown to forgive the other for their perceived grievances, but that day would never come to pass. A few months after the fall of Theodoric, Garlean forces began marching on her doorstep; the fight that had once seemed so distant had now come right to her.

That the people of village harbored a fierce, free spirit was no secret to Garlemald, and the destruction that Quenepa came to when she returned from the Lochs would shock her only in its severity. The crackle of burning buildings, the clash of farm tools against gunblade, the screams of villagers running for their lives... in the chaos, she couldn't even recognize the path to her home. The hours between her arrival and finding herself clinging on to one of her neighbors, a Hyuran teenage girl she hardly knew, as they desperately rode away on a chocobo were a blur. It was not until the shock wore off hours later in the cave they used for shelter that she realized she had no idea whether her mother was alive or not. As Quenepa stared up at the clear night sky, counting the stars, she wondered if she would ever be able to apologize to her.

Picrew of Gabriela (that's me!)

Hiya! I'm Gabriela, but most folks call me Gaby or Gaybee. I'm 26, non-binary (they/them pls!), and a big ol' lesbian who loves their spouse. I've been roleplaying since I was 12, mostly in paragraph forum settings, but I've dabbled in chat-style and DM roleplaying on occasion. I took a break for a while and I'm just coming back into the scene now and really enjoying how vibrant the community is in FFXIV! If you ever want to RP, watch out for my RP tag for some WU or just /tell me at any point and we can figure a time out. Hope you have a great day!

  • I'm really not interested in ERP, sorry! It's extra weird if that's what you're looking for with a Lala, honestly.

  • I do, however, enjoy darker themes in my RP! If you ever want something a little more ~gritty and dark~, we can figure that out.

  • The golden rule, of course, but don't bunny or godmod my char please!

  • If there's ever a concern or you want to set up a long-term scenario with my char, absolutely talk to me about it! I always try to be super friendly and open to communication.

With all that outta the way, I look forward to RPing with you if you're interested! If you wanna interact some more, here's my Twitter and you can always ask for my Discord for easier chatting. Just let me know who you are on either and I'll be happy to talk!
